Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you might want to know before placing an order. Still have a question? Email us at [email protected] and we’ll get back to you as soon as we can.

How much advance time does Poppy & Flour need to curate the perfect treat/cake?

Typically, at least 14-day notice is preferred. If you need something rushed, please email [email protected] and await an email confirmation. Note that a late fee may be applied for rushed orders.

Does Poppy & Flour deliver?

We can deliver, for a fee, based on location in Maryland. To request a delivery, please email [email protected]. Contactless pickup is also available in the 20895 zip code. Poppy & Flour will coordinate with you to schedule a day/time for pickups.

Does Poppy & Flour offer shipping?

At this time, we do not offer shipping.

Do Poppy & Flour’s products contain common allergens?

All of our products are made in a home-based kitchen containing known food allergens (eggs, peanuts, wheat, dairy, nuts, and soy). Because equipment is shared, Poppy & Flour can’t 100% guarantee an allergen-free product (similar to ordering food at a restaurant). It is the customer’s responsibility to notify their guests of any allergy risks, and to inform Poppy & Flour of any allergies. We do offer vegan, nut-free, and gluten-free options if the customer assumes responsibility and acknowledges that they are aware that treats are made in a home-based kitchen.

What measures does Poppy & Flour take to minimize cross-contamination among allergens?

We wash surfaces, cutlery, and equipment thoroughly before and after prepping our food. We also keep utensils separate during food preparation, and always practice good hygiene, hand-washing, and wear latex-free gloves when prepping our treats. Please email us at [email protected] with any questions or concerns.

How does Poppy & Flour safely handle food?

Aside from practicing good hygiene, we have completed the ServSafe Employee Food Safety Course and Exam through the National Restaurant Association. Please email us at [email protected] with any questions or concerns.

Does Poppy & Flour give refunds for damaged products after they’ve been delivered/picked up?

Poppy & Flour will provide handling instructions, but is not liable for damage to the product due to client negligence or improper handling once the product has been delivered or picked up. Please note that direct sunlight and warm temperatures may have adverse effects on any cake, cupcakes, chocolate molds, macarons, and perishables.

Does Poppy & Flour allow for last-minute changes to an order already placed?

If an order is placed and the customer wants a last-minute change, it cannot always be guaranteed. Changes within a few days of pick-up/delivery may be subject to a change order fee.

Do I have to place a deposit for my order?

Yes. Once Poppy & Flour has confirmed your order, we will request a 50% deposit. The remaining 50% will be due upon fulfillment of the order.

Can an order be canceled?

Custom orders can be canceled with at least an 8-day notice, and the customer will be issued a full refund. Any cancellations within 7 days of your scheduled pick-up date will not be subject to a refund; rather, Poppy & Flour will credit your deposit toward a future order. If a customer does not show and has not contacted Poppy & Flour to pick up within 24 hours of the desired date, the customer forfeits the product(s) without a refund, and such are subject to resale.

What payment methods do you accept?

At this time, we accept Zelle, Venmo, Cash, and credit cards.

What if I don’t know what colors or flavors to choose for my order?

Don’t fret! Poppy & Flour can help you choose a flavor that everyone will love, as well as help coordinate design and colors to your theme and event. We love being creative!

I placed an order — now what?

Once you place an order, Poppy & Flour will work with you on the design (if choosing a custom order item). We will contact you within 24–48 hours of your order submission to go over details. Once a deposit is received, you are officially considered scheduled, and we will provide pick-up details following such.

What types of ingredients are in your products?

Depending on the item, ingredients typically include dairy, wheat, soy, eggs, and/or nuts. If you need a custom order to cater to an allergy or sensitivity, please drop us a line at [email protected]. Additionally, Poppy & Flour is happy to provide a more detailed list of ingredients if needed.

What is the shelf-life of Poppy & Flour’s products?

Most treats are best enjoyed within 2–5 days of receiving; however, some can last beyond this if stored properly, depending on the product. Cakes and cupcakes are best enjoyed within 5 days and should be stored in the refrigerator in their corresponding carrier until a few hours before your event. Take cupcakes out of the refrigerator 15 minutes before, and cakes 1 hour before, to allow them to come to room temperature. Macarons should be stored in the refrigerator and consumed at room temperature within 3–5 days of purchase.
