Hello, I'm Emily

Hello! My name is Emily, and I am a baking and confectionery enthusiast. Aside from my passion for baking and curating special confections for those I love, I am a mom to two rambunctious kids, Leila and Alexander, and a dog mom to a bichon/toy-poodle mix, Millie. My late grandfather used to always say, “love comes through the stomach.” With that, I would like to introduce you to Poppy & Flour!

A family of bakers

I come from a long line of exceptional Jordanian and Palestinian cooks and bakers, and over the years, baking with my family and for friends has grown into a true creative outlet.

When my husband and I welcomed our first child, we encountered unexpected challenges in the world of feeding and nutrition. Our daughter, Leila, struggled with several food allergies, including food protein–induced enterocolitis syndrome (FPIES), as well as a rare digestive disorder. This combination created a perfect storm, leading her to develop a negative association with feeding at just a few weeks old. We were heartbroken and confused as to why our otherwise healthy, joyful baby reacted so strongly to the sight of a bottle and, later, to certain foods.

Determined to advocate for her health and well-being, we persisted. Through months of perseverance, testing, procedures, professional guidance, and plenty of tears, we pushed forward as a family, gaining a tremendous amount of knowledge along the way.

These challenges ultimately transformed my relationship with food. I immersed myself in learning about allergies, alternative ingredients, and adaptive baking techniques. Today, I’m grateful to be able to bake treats my daughter can enjoy—whether for a special occasion or simply because she deserves something sweet.
